A Shared Resource: Michigan and Superior

by Nathan Hatch

A Shared Resource: Michigan and Superior is inspired by the relationship between the Great Lakes and the people that rely on them. The imagery on the top of the sculpture depicts the coastlines of Lake Michigan and Lake superior. The bottom half of the Sculpture represents the topography of the lakebeds blended with the imagery of a bee colony. The 10 honey bees represent the 10 US States and Canadian territories that border the Great Lakes and make up the Great Lakes Compact. My goal is to draw parallels between the relationship of the bees to their hives to the relationship between the Great Lakes and the quality of life for the communities that surround them.  -Nathan Hatch
