This piece as well as “Crimson Belt, “Clytie”, “Licopene”, and “Potato Harvest” are all part of the body of work titled “Agraria” (2019). While still addressing the visual narrative of a humble, hardworking, and well-designed American agrarian scene, these paintings include a more complex palette, smaller scale, more clotted visual schema, a broader narrative reach, and a return to the artist’s signature dark European frames, all of this in contrast to the “Herd” paintings (2018) which proceeded them. This painting references the ginseng industry.
