While Jim and his daughter were in Wisconsin riding bikes around Door County, they stopped to look at some things in the woods. He came across a leaf that had been neatly folded into what was clearly a cocoon of some kind. He took a picture and asked a park ranger if they knew what it was and was informed it belonged to a Luna moth. That little cocoon inspired Jim to investigate Luna moths. He found out that hickory tree leaves are the catapillars favorite food. This sculpture is about that life cycle and depicts what is one the most beautiful North American moths.
