Dog portraits are a favorite subject of mine, because there are so many opportunities to use a variety of painting techniques depending on the fur type of the dog. I also find I can play with the tension between having control over the medium while at the same time letting go of control. I use more control in the face to capture the detail of the eyes and nose and then let go of that control and watch the water do what it does best in the ears and body of the dog.
