I really love to paint daily as it keeps me sane and pleasant.  For many years, I very comfortably wore the badge that read “Still Life Painter,” but I’ve always had the itch to paint abstractly.  Challenges and change bring a certain amount of initial discomfort, but I felt it was time to scratch the itch and embrace the challenge that I avoided for many years.  Initially I found painting without a reference to be tricky—even unnerving--but with time and patience I learned to depend on intuition and knowledge that I gained during my many years of painting education and practice.

My work is intuitively painted, ethereal, and calming, which I think is welcome in our busy and sometimes turbulent world.  Often, I contrast the organic feeling of a painting with more controlled use of lines in grids, stripes, etc. which could be indicative of some inner conflict.   I employ many odd tools for application and removal of paint, which I find to be equally important, and resulting in many layers of depth, texture and interest.

I am inspired and appreciate the beauty and mysteries of nature and the great outdoors.  I love anything old and weathered, such as peeling and weathered paint, rust, and anything fitting the concept of wabi-sabi—that there is beauty in the old and not-quite-perfect. I

I am very grateful and fortunate to be doing what I love at this stage in my life, especially here in my ninth season with Edgewood Orchard Galleries.
