Greg Bracken

Greg Bracken

Largely self-taught, Greg Bracken loves to draw anything and everything, although his particular talent lies in capturing the likeness and spirit of animals.

Born in 1958 in Elkhorn, Wisconsin, Greg spent his childhood in Walworth County.  As early as age 16, Greg knew he would be an artist, a person who works with animals or a roller derby skater.  Feeling the confines of small-town life and a lack of skate rink, Greg left for San Francisco in 1978.  He stayed two decades.  He says, "The city was too much fun!  I did nothing artistic. Instead I worked at one of the most famous metaphysical bookstores on the West Coast, Fields Bookstore.  I'll always consider San Francisco my second home."  Upon leaving San Francisco and the joys and distractions it held, Greg headed for Colorado and began his artistic career as a painter.

These days he enjoys a gypsy lifestyle wandering between Arizona, Illinois and Wisconsin with his rescue dog, Olivia.  Greg's work is focused on the whimsy, delight and love found in relating to animals.

"Animals are my first love. I could paint dogs and cats 'til the cows come home, and then paint them too! I find animals endlessly fascinating, funny and wonderful. It’s a huge joy when I can capture their spirit in a painting."

Greg's portraits and drawings have a special place in the homes of clients and friends from coast to coast.
