Ginnie Cappaert
Though Ginnie's art is based on landscape as a subject, she is primarily interested in color, texture and abstracted forms. Her paintings are a long journey and are often developed in a series based on different elements of the landscape. When viewing her work she would like people to connect on an emotional level, feeling this sense of place that surrounds us all.
Cappaert works in oil and mixed mediums and applies very thin layers of oil paint to the wood board adding texture, scraping the paint, dissolving then rebuilding as she constructs the painting. It is the slow, meditative process of applying over 40 layers of pigment that allows her to process emotion and the soul of a place into her deeply rooted paintings of the landscape that she carries in her memory.
Ginnie's local surroundings as well as distant trips continue to inspire her artwork. Skies, vast lands, waters, color and light provide endless inspiration. She currently divides her time between Egg Harbor, WI and Santa Fe, NM. She continually strives to find a balance in her work between abstraction and landscape.
