Laurel Grey
I work with kiln-fired enameled glass to create pieces inspired by my love of both nature and time-worn materials. My glass leaf strands bring the feeling of the natural world home—capturing the essence of leaves fluttering in the breeze—without requiring bug spray, long pants and hiking boots.
I start the strands by designing intricate leaf shapes based on real foliage, then use modern waterjet technology to cut these forms from traditional stained glass. I add fine detail with glass enamels, and kiln-fire the leaves in a way that allows each leaf to take on a natural, one-of-a-kind shape. I compliment the leaves with driftwood and stones I gather along Door County shores, and suspend everything on stainless steel cable so the finished pieces can be enjoyed indoors or out.
