Jeffrey W. Olson

Jeffrey W. Olson

Jeffrey Olson developed his interest in sculpture early in his bachelor studies, and when he did his Masters degree split its emphasis between sculpture and painting. He taught art for 35 years at all levels. During that time he taught a night sculpture class for the Milwaukee Area Technical College in addition to his full time art position. Since retiring in 2003 he has made sculpture his primary area of work.

Since then he has done 8 large limestone sculptures throughout the county. His interest in doing monumental sculpture started soon after graduating from college with a statue of Chief Namekagon for a park in northern Wisconsin. Most recently he completed 5 statues of saints for the Stella Maris Parish, and a sculpture of a fireman, “Final Alarm”, to honor those firefighters who lost their lives on duty with the Appleton Fire Department.

Though primarily using Door County limestone he has also worked in wood, and has national reputation working in snow sculpture. He has won numerous awards in many national and international snow sculpture events. His artworks are in private and public collections throughout the US and in 7 foreign countries.
