Cathy Engberg

Cathy Engberg is a figurative oil painter who is now also making small ceramic sculptures. Her subjects are playful and sometimes whimsical
celebrating life’s simple moments. She was raised in the Chicago suburbs and is now living and working in Peoria, IL. You can find her most days in
her studio located at North Art Studios in Peoria.
Her paintings are in oil & cold wax, She applies many thin layers of color working with a brayer, brush, or spatula. These layers add visual and
sometimes tactile texture. As a representational artist, she likes to combine rendering of the figure with a flattening into the background, balancing
realism with abstraction in a playful and creative way.
In 2022, Cathy’s embarked on a new adventure of sculpture! Her ceramic pieces are playful, unique, and a tiny bit wonky, but intended to make you
smile. She is currently using stoneware clay. Her pieces are hand built and decorated with oxides, satin glazes and matte underglazes, which make for interesting textured surfaces. Her small test kiln is making it possible for her to produce some small batch pieces for galleries.
