The raven is probably the most iconic bird of all time and certainly for the west. Everywhere I travel in the western states I am rewarded with beautiful scenes of crows and ravens displaying their intelligence, beauty and playfulness. They are another of God's creatures that remind me to live in the moment, take advantage of opportunities and to make my work into play! So many times I have seen ravens and crows in Yellowstone park making off with parts of unattended lunches. Here in my new home of Wenatchee Washington they drop nuts onto the road and wait for cars to crush the nuts. They hang out in my trees and laugh and cackle and talk. This piece is an ode to the beautiful raven. I'm especially fond of the new materials I have combined in this stand. It is oak that has been burnished inlaid with slate and hammered steel.
